What Happened Overnight in Bakersfield & Kern County
A homeowner on Breckenridge Road held a burglary suspect at gunpoint while a second suspect got away in a black GMC, setting off a search through the foothills along Comanche Drive. Deputies also worked a hit-and-run whose driver ran off on foot, an assault where a man showed a pistol and fled in an SUV, and a report of a woman locked inside a car on Ledgeview Lane. Fire and medical crews answered a three-vehicle crash on East Truxtun Avenue with a possible pin-in, a vehicle that went off the road into a ravine near downed power lines, alarms at a District Boulevard business and a Truxtun Avenue building, and a string of medical aids. Traffic units spent the late evening trying to identify a group of roughly 50 vehicles moving along Westside Parkway. The rest of the log was disturbances, welfare checks and a handful of fights.
The big one
Breckenridge Road burglary ends with a resident holding a suspect at gunpoint
Shortly before 11 p.m. a Breckenridge Road resident called dispatchers back to report he was holding a burglary suspect at gunpoint after an earlier break-in at the home. A second suspect ran to a black GMC and left westbound on Breckenridge Road. A neighbor told deputies the vehicle had turned south on Comanche Drive, and units staged at Breckenridge and Comanche while a patrol car followed the truck westbound at normal speeds. The search through the Comanche Drive foothills carried past midnight before the vehicle was reported heading south out of the area.

At 9:49 p.m. traffic units were sent after about 50 vehicles moving eastbound on Westside Parkway approaching Calloway Drive. Officers were asked to identify anyone involved and to check Coffee Road at the parkway as the group split, with part of it reported heading toward the Truxtun Avenue off-ramp and Highway 99. Departments were advised to keep units free while the group was tracked through the area.
Vehicle goes off the road into a ravine with power lines down
At 9:55 p.m. crews were told a crash had started as a vehicle versus a tree before the vehicle went down into a ravine and came to rest with power lines down nearby. The occupants were out of the vehicle and were reported possibly trying to reach the water, and a second vehicle was reported down at the riverbank a short time later.
