What Happened Overnight in Bakersfield & Kern County

Fire crews spent more than an hour on a cluster of trash and vegetation fires burning in several spots along a canal side near Roberts Lane, and had to shuttle water in because they did not have enough on their rigs to put it out. A vehicle fire burned near Adobe Road and Teale Road, a pickup was taken from outside a downtown hotel on 18th Street, officers chased a driver late in the evening, and deputies searched for a missing adult and two young children. Police traffic stacked up before midnight, and the hours before dawn were given over mostly to medical calls.

The big one

Several fires burning along a canal side near Roberts Lane

At 12:30 a.m. crews were sent to an outside fire in the area of Beardsley Junior High at Roberts Lane and found fire burning in trash along a canal side. Crews told dispatchers there were two more fires nearby, one about 100 yards south, and that they did not have enough water to put the fire out, so they would try to keep it from growing until more units arrived. Engines were routed in on dirt roads that run behind the houses, crews laid a trunk line and shuttled water from a hydrant, and a smaller section of fire was knocked down before 1:40 a.m. Crews stayed on scene for mop-up, and a second outside fire in the same area was assigned to Engine 64 at 12:59 a.m.

Around the county

Pickup taken from outside a downtown hotel

At 4:04 a.m. dispatchers broadcast that a silver 2020 Ram 2500 had been taken from outside a hotel in the 1700 block of 18th Street. A description of the person involved went out to units, along with word that the vehicle's direction of travel was unknown.

Vehicle fire near Adobe Road and Teale Road

At 12:51 a.m. a vehicle fire was reported just north of Teale Road in the Adobe Road area and assigned to the Station 54 area.

Missing adult with two toddlers

At 10:45 p.m. deputies took a report of a missing adult woman who was with two children, ages two and three, and had last been seen about three hours earlier. Family members said they had been unable to reach her, and units checking the area reported they had not found anyone.

Assault reported on Quincy Street

At 4:25 a.m. a woman came to a neighbor's door in the 1800 block of Quincy Street bleeding from the mouth and said she had been assaulted by her boyfriend, who left in an unknown direction. Medical units were advised.
