What Happened Overnight in Bakersfield & Kern County
A pursuit cleared the radio channel and pulled multiple units onto Hampton Avenue, a man with facial injuries told responders he had been jumped at a park on Hawthorne Avenue, and fire crews put out a refuse fire burning inside an old tank they recognized as one used to burn copper wire. Here is what came over the scanner.
The big one
Pursuit ends with a yield on Hampton Avenue
Shortly before 1 a.m., an officer broadcast a Code 33, clearing the radio channel for emergency traffic, as they went after a vehicle that appeared to be yielding. Units called out their position westbound on Hampton Avenue and gave a block on the street, then confirmed a moment later that the vehicle was yielding at a different block, with a correction on the location and multiple units en route behind them. The channel was cleared back to normal traffic once the stop was made.
Around the county
Man with facial injuries says he was jumped at a park
Just after 2:20 a.m., officers and Liberty Ambulance paramedics were sent to a park on Hawthorne Avenue for a possible assault victim. Dispatch described a man in a black shirt and blue jeans with facial injuries who said he had been jumped, last seen walking eastbound on Hawthorne from the park. An engine was cleared into an updated address on Hawthorne a few minutes later.
Refuse fire in an old tank used to burn copper wire
Late in the evening, Battalion 6 was sent to a refuse fire burning inside a decommissioned tank that crews recognized as one they had dealt with before for burning copper wire. The battalion downgraded the assignment, kept the fire with the companies already on scene and said they would advise when they arrived.
Boards pulled off and someone goes in
Officers were sent to an apartment in the 6200 block of Victor Street after a caller reported that a man and a woman were taking boards off the place and entering the residence.

Night notes
Police work carried most of the night: a brief pursuit that cleared the channel on Hampton Avenue, a break-in report at an apartment on Victor Street, a prowler report at an East Brundage car wash that dispatchers tied to an earlier vandalism, and a run of welfare checks and domestic calls that started on the Smith Street block in the evening and stretched to a neighbor check on Fremont Street after 3:30 a.m. Fire crews handled the refuse fire in the old tank, a residential alarm and medical aid runs across the city. The heaviest concentration of calls came in the late evening and again in the two hours after 3 a.m., mostly medical aids and welfare checks in the central and east parts of town.
