What Happened Overnight in Bakersfield & Kern County

A report of someone inside a vacant Bakersfield unit turned into a search for two people who fled toward the north road, and fire crews handled smoke inside a lodging room plus a reported structure fire before dawn. Here's what came over the scanner overnight.

The big one

Search after screams reported on Mohawk Street

— Officers were sent to the Mohawk Street block at 2:16 a.m. after a caller reported someone inside a vacant unit, then heard a loud argument, a woman screaming for help and a man yelling. Two subjects were seen on a rear landing before fleeing toward the north road, and a search of the area followed. Descriptions of both were broadcast to responding units.

Motorcycle crash at Hart Park

Night notes

The night's call load leaned on disturbances and welfare checks, with a string of domestic-related responses spread between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. Fire crews handled smoke inside a lodging room in the evening and a reported structure fire before dawn, while a water heater leak damaged a Teal Street home. Outlying communities stayed busy too: a hazard call in Mojave and a motorcycle crash near Hart Park both drew responses.
