What Happened Overnight in Bakersfield & Kern County
The last night of the long Labor Day weekend was a quiet one for dispatchers, dominated by firework complaints that kept crews checking neighborhoods into the early hours, a handful of welfare checks, and a couple of more serious calls — a reported rural burglary near 230th and Gaskell and the theft of a semi truck from northwest Bakersfield. Here's what came over the scanner from Sunday evening into Monday morning.
Around the county
Loud boom shakes La Cresta area
— Residents near La Cresta Avenue called in a loud blast shortly before 10 p.m., several saying it was strong enough to shake their doors open. Multiple neighbors reported the same boom, and crews treated it as a firework report as others across the city logged firework complaints through the evening.
Rural burglary near 230th and Gaskell
— Deputies were sent to a property near 230th Street and Gaskell Avenue in the early hours after three people in dark clothing were reported cutting through a chain-link fence toward heavy equipment and storage sheds. The group was said to have arrived in a pickup and an SUV pulling flatbed trailers.
Semi truck stolen from northwest Bakersfield
— A white 2018 Freightliner semi truck was reported stolen from a property in northwest Bakersfield, with the owner telling officers a firearm was inside the cab when it was taken.
Possible DUI crash
— A two-vehicle collision left both cars off the roadway shortly before midnight. No injuries were reported, and one driver was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Night notes
The holiday weekend wound down quietly, with firework calls the most common complaint through the evening and overnight hours. Routine welfare checks and a handful of domestic calls made up much of the rest, while the two more serious calls of the night — a reported burglary at a rural property and the theft of a semi truck — drew the biggest responses.
