The Kern Overnight — September 3, 2026

A high-speed pursuit on the Westside Parkway drew officers from Bakersfield and CHP through the night, and an armed disturbance at a Rosedale Highway restaurant sent responding units scrambling before the parties sped off. Elsewhere, crews freed a pinned driver near a railroad crossing, and a masked crew in a black BMW was tied to a catalytic converter theft with a possible gunshot.

The big one

High-speed chase crosses the Westside Parkway.

Around 10:13 p.m., officers pursued a silver Nissan Altima with an unlicensed driver southbound off Rosedale Highway, through the Westside Parkway and back eastbound. The car reached speeds of roughly 110 mph with little to no traffic on the road. Air support was unavailable, so CHP took over the chase near the Allen Road area as it reversed course along the parkway.

Armed disturbance at a Rosedale restaurant.

Around 9:22 p.m., a fight involving a firearm broke out at a restaurant on Rosedale Highway. A second caller reported another man holding a gun in his waistband. Parties fled westbound in a black Dodge Challenger before officers arrived on scene.

Driver pinned after collision near railroad tracks.

Around 10:53 p.m., a collision near a Bakersfield railroad crossing left one person pinned in a vehicle. Multiple engines and a red trauma activation responded, and crews worked to free a man in his 40s with a head injury.

Catalytic converter theft with a possible gunshot.

Around 6:03 a.m., a caller reported three masked men in a black BMW stealing catalytic converters in the 2000 block of Leicester Avenue. The caller said they may have heard a gunshot after the theft. Patrol was investigating.

Traumatic injuries at the Amtrak station.
