The Kern Overnight — September 1, 2026
A rollover on Highway 58 west of Tucker Road drew a multi-unit response with an air unit on standby shortly after midnight, and officers were sent to a residence in the Coburn Ridge area on reports of five to six shots fired. Crews also knocked down a grass fire near Wasco, ran a foot pursuit of a rider on a dirt bike along a Chester Avenue bike path, and worked a steady run of domestic, welfare and medical calls across the county.

Rollover on Highway 58 west of Tucker Road.
Around 12:41 a.m., a vehicle rollover with unknown injuries on westbound Highway 58 west of Tucker Road brought a multi-unit response including a battalion chief, with an air unit on standby. Westbound lanes were reduced as crews worked the scene.
Shots fired in the Coburn Ridge area.
Around 1:48 a.m., callers reported five to six shots fired at a residence, with subjects in ski masks seen at the door. The reporting party was checking cameras as a vehicle fled the area; officers responded.

Grass fire near Wasco.
Around 1:30 a.m., a grass fire off Wasco Pond Road north of Cecil Avenue drew an engine, a patrol unit and additional assistance. Fire progression was stopped and crews were released.
Court order violation with a firearm threat.
Around 9:36 p.m., a call at Virginia Avenue and Powell Street reported a male subject making threats to obtain a firearm. Additional officers responded.
Foot pursuit along a Chester Avenue bike path.
Around 9:58 p.m., officers ran a short pursuit of a male on a dirt bike riding along a bike path in north Bakersfield; visual was lost at Chester Avenue and units were searching.
Suicidal teenager on Marble Street.
Around 10:48 p.m., reports of a 17-year-old making suicidal statements at a residence drew officers and medics, with family members contacted.

- 9:32 p.m. — Outside_fire, northbound Highway 99 south of Olive Drive. Small roadside fire reported by CHP on northbound Highway 99 south of Olive Drive; crews responded and handled.
- 10:44 p.m. — Mental_health, West China Grade area. Female in a mental health crisis at a residence; medics and officers responding.
- 11:21 p.m. — Suspicious_person, Blomquist Drive area. Male transient, possibly under the influence, repeatedly returning to an abandoned residence.
- 11:32 p.m. — Vehicle_fire, Elk Hills Road. A reported vehicle fire on Elk Hills Road drew a first-alarm response before crews confirmed it was a dropped flare with no active fire, and cleared.
- 12:06 a.m. — Welfare_check, Bernard Street area. Welfare check on a 15-year-old reported missing and last seen in a gray SUV.
- 2:23 a.m. — Pedestrian_on_highway, West Escape Ramp, northbound I-5. Caller reported a family member walking on the right-hand shoulder of northbound I-5 near the escape ramp.
