What Happened Overnight in Bakersfield & Kern County

A fire near Pond Road and Minner Avenue turned into a multi-structure fight that pushed crews into a defensive mode after power lines came down, and a ShotSpotter activation reported eight rounds fired in the 1700 block of Niles Street. The night also brought a crash between two semis on Interstate 5 north of Gorman, an armed robbery at a mobile home park, and a break-in call where a woman hid in her closet while officers checked the building. The rest of the log was medical aids, alarms and traffic checks.

The big one

Multi-structure fire near Pond Road and Minner Avenue

At 9:27 p.m. fire crews were sent to a report of a house fire near Pond Road and Minner Avenue. A battalion chief reported multiple structures involved and power lines down across the property, and crews went into a defensive mode with water tenders shuttling in. Crews asked for the utility to cut the power lines before they could work the property, and later reported the resident had been contacted and gave a verbal all clear for the property.

Armed robbery at a mobile home park

At 11:29 p.m. deputies were sent to a mobile home park after a resident who uses a wheelchair reported two men took $200 in cash at gunpoint about 15 minutes earlier and ran off on foot.

Break-in call sent a resident to her closet

At 12:32 a.m. officers were sent to an apartment on the 400 block of White Lane after a resident who lives alone reported someone came in through her front door, that she heard an item fall inside her kitchen, and that she was hiding in her closet.
