The Kern Overnight — August 28, 2026

A grass fire flared up next to the freeway near a Hampton Inn on East Brundage Lane late Thursday night, while crews elsewhere in Bakersfield answered a possible overdose outside Brookside on Coffee Road, a domestic disturbance on Lincoln Street and a welfare check on Grand Prairie Drive where a resident said someone was on the roof. Overnight calls also included a diabetic emergency on West Mariposa Avenue and a check on a vehicle passenger near Wofford Heights.

Around the county

Grass fire near the Hampton Inn off Highway 99.

Around 10:55 p.m., fire crews and a battalion chief were sent to the area of the Hampton Inn on East Brundage Lane near the freeway for a reported grass fire.

Possible overdose outside Brookside on Coffee Road.

Shortly after 4 a.m., medical crews were called to the front of Brookside on Coffee Road, where a person outside at the tables was unconscious but breathing in what was reported as a possible overdose.

Domestic disturbance on Lincoln Street.

Just after 11 p.m., officers responded to an apartment on Lincoln Street for a domestic disturbance in which a woman reported being prevented from leaving.

Someone on the roof at a Grand Prairie Drive home.

About 11:30 p.m., deputies checked on a Grand Prairie Drive home after the resident reported their alarm sounding and said someone was on the roof.

  • 3:35 a.m. — Medical_aid, West Mariposa Avenue, Bakersfield. Medical aid for a diabetic emergency on West Mariposa Avenue.
  • 4:11 a.m. — Welfare_check, Wagy Flat Road, Wofford Heights. A deputy was sent to check the welfare of a possible passenger in a vehicle on Wagy Flat Road near Wofford Heights.
