The Kern Overnight — August 24, 2026

A dispute at a wellness facility in southwest Bakersfield turned violent late Saturday night when a roommate reportedly poured hot water on another resident, bringing officers to the scene. Earlier, a brush fire in the county drew dozers and two battalions of firefighters, and through the early hours police handled a domestic call on Riverlakes Drive, a residential burglary in north Bakersfield and a welfare check on Beardsley Avenue.

Just before 11 p.m., officers responded to a wellness facility on Evanston Court after a dispute escalated, with a roommate reportedly pouring hot water on another resident and on bedding and equipment at the scene.

Around the county

Brush fire draws dozers, unincorporated Kern County.

Around 9:20 p.m., a brush fire was reported in a field, possibly being put out by residents. Fire officials dispatched multiple engines, two battalions and dozers to the scene.

Domestic disturbance on Riverlakes Drive.

Shortly after 11 p.m., officers responded to a domestic call in southwest Bakersfield in which residents were pushing and throwing property; a woman on scene said she was pregnant and had been struck.

Residential burglary, north Bakersfield.

About 5:54 a.m., a caller reported that a subject who had just fled had burglarized his residence. Officers were investigating.

Welfare check on Beardsley Avenue.

Just after midnight, officers checked on a 19-year-old woman at a residence in southeast Bakersfield who was under the influence and had made suicidal statements.

Night notes
