The Kern Overnight — August 11, 2026
A busy early-morning shift across Kern County: a semi-truck fire on Interstate 5 near the Grapevine, a three-vehicle crash with multiple patients near Kimberlina Road, and a vehicle fire on Mount Vernon Avenue. Sixteen incidents tracked between 9 PM and 6 AM.
The big one
Semi-truck fire on Interstate 5
— shortly after 4 AM, crews were sent to a semi with fire starting underneath the cab on northbound I-5 about a mile south of Grapevine Road. CHP arrived first; fire crews staged and knocked the fire down. No injuries were reported, and the truck needed a tow.
Around the county
- Three-vehicle collision, Highway 43 at Kimberlina Road (4:53 AM) — a multi-company rescue response for what dispatchers said could be six patients; crews were still sorting injuries.
- Vehicle fire on Mount Vernon Avenue (5:42 AM) — a vehicle accident with the car on fire near the downtown overpass; non-injury, ambulance and fire crews handled it, and the vehicle was reported abandoned.
- Assault with a firearm, east Bakersfield (11:56 PM) — a report of an assault with a gun at an apartment complex; units investigated.
- Structure response, Ridgecrest (4:42 AM) — nothing visible on arrival; Ridgecrest PD investigated.
- Two mental-health crises — a subject reported to have harmed himself (12:32 AM), and a welfare concern with a firearm involved in the Sunset Boulevard / Malaga Road area (10:29 PM).
The log
- 10:08 p.m. — Disturbance, downtown Bakersfield. Fight between two subjects reported; unrelated to an ambulance call nearby.
- 12:12 a.m. — Domestic call, H Street, downtown. Domestic disturbance; subject refusing to leave.
- 1:02 a.m. — Disturbance, Mojave. Verbal argument over keys at a residence; units responding.
- 2:50 a.m. — Hazardous condition, Auburn Street near Canyon Hills. Water valve shooting out water across a road; crews notified.
- 3:22 a.m. — Fire, Pioneer Park. Outside fire — a grill on fire at Pioneer Park; fire crews responded.
- 3:59 a.m. — Fire, near Highway 46. Small roadside fire in grass; single engine handled.
- 4:46 a.m. — Fire, 3.5 miles south of Highway 46. Grass fire just starting near the Summit area; crews responding.
- 5:55 a.m. — Vehicle fire, Highway 58 northbound. Car fire in the northbound lanes; crews responding.
Night notes
Traffic concentrated in the early-morning hours — the I-5 semi fire, the Kimberlina Road crash, and the Mount Vernon vehicle fire all landed between 4 and 6 a.m., and the scanner was quietest around midnight. The two big fire responses were knocked down without announced injuries, though the Kimberlina collision's patient count was still being sorted when the feed wrapped up.
